Die Csárdásfürstin (The Gypsy Princess)

by Emmerich Kálmán

Friday December 7, 2018 at 6:30 pm

Under the gracious patronage of H.E. Javlon Vakhabov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan, the Washington Opera Society is proud to present, the Washington premiere of Emmerich Kálmán’s romantic operetta Die Csárdásfürstin featuring the return to our stage of Suzanne Karpov as the Gypsy Princess (Sylva Varescu), with Peter Joshua Burroughs as Edwin Ronald, Joanna Jones as Countess Stasi, Jack French as Count Boni Káncsiánu, and Brandon Shaw McKnight as Feri von Kerekes.    Return to the beginning of the 20h century and revisit the Austro-Hungarian Empire as we present one of the best-known and rarely produced  German-language operettas in the repertoire.

You’re invited to join us as we usher in the holiday season with an unforgettable musical treat for the Nation’s Capital.  Emmerich Kálmán is one of the 3 best-known composers of operettas along with Johann Strauss and Franz Lehár.  Our chorus and orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Julien Benichou.

Dinner service provided by Embassy Chef to include wines, beers, and luscious desserts which will precede the performance.
